Hotelupwell.com – There are many exciting ways to enjoy a family holiday in Kulonprogo. If you want to experience the sensation of a family friendly adventure, the Kali Papah Pakcrafting Tour could be an interesting choice.
This tourist attraction is located in Banguncipto, Sentolo, Kulon Progo, Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY). Tourists are invited to explore Kali Papah with a route approximately 1.5 kilometers long.
Each person will climb aboard an inflatable paddle and be challenged to row themselves. No need to worry, the river current with a depth of 50 centimeters to 1.5 meters is not too strong, in fact it is calm enough so it is safe for beginners, including children aged at least seven years.
Before starting along the river, tourists will receive a brief briefing from the instructor team. It’s not just about how to row, but also various things related to safety standards that need to be considered.
Apart from that, even if you row alone, there is still a team of guides who accompany you during the packrafting process. So, they are always ready to help to ensure the safety of tourists.
The Kali Papah Packrafting Tour is the first kayaking tour in Kulon Progo, DIY. The river flows from the Kali Bawang ditch with water discharge that can be controlled according to needs, usually depending on the number of tourists.
Interestingly, the Kali Papah Packrafting Tour apparently started from the noble thoughts of local village residents. This tourist attraction is expected to stimulate the local economy, including opening up employment opportunities for the younger generation.
“I’m old. If possible, I want to leave behind my putu [grandchildren] to create jobs,” said Supardjan, founder of tourism at Kali Papah.
Sentolo is an industrial area in Kulonprogo. This made Supardjan think about the opportunities for natural tourism in Kali Papah as a means of unwinding for people who are tired of working.
Supardjan took a bold step by selling his cows. The results become initial capital to buy a float.
“I stopped because of Covid, I gave up. Then, I met a packrafting partner, so I was able to develop even more,” said Supardjan.
Meanwhile, Banguncipto Village Head, Boiran believes that the Kali Papah Packrafting Tour has extraordinary potential. In the last two years, the number of tourists visiting has relatively increased.
Boiran also revealed that this special interest tourism has become one of the business units of the Binangun Cipta Mandiri Banguncipto Village-Owned Enterprise (BUMDes).
“It is hoped that in the future this business unit will generate genuine contribution from the village,” said Boiran.
